A wall sconce is often used as an accent item. They are often used in pairs on either side of a mirror or painting. They also look striking in their own. Of course ones holding live plants must have adequate sunlight. Those with candles or electric bulbs can enliven dark corners. Many people think these items are for only the living room or entryway. However, these versatile decorations can beautify a wall in any room. Sconces can go above the headboard in the bedroom or flank the mirror in the bathroom. It is always a good idea to hang a sconce, particularly if it is heavy or will be heavy when loaded, over a wall stud. Hardware and home improvement stores generally carry inexpensive stud finders to help determine the safest place to hang a sconce or other decorative item.
For a camp or a country home, one might choose an iron sconce that is embellished with pine cones to complete their themed decor. For a beach house, perhaps a wall sconce that is adorned with seahorses might be the appropriate choice. To provide the inspirational look, there are several sconces that are in the shape of a cross so that any room can have a spiritual look.
Traditional candle sconces were made from wrought iron and contained glass hurricane lamps. In addition to brass wall candle sconces, you can also have them made from Tiffany glass or plastic or you may prefer to have crystals dripping from them so that they look like mini chandeliers. You can also use imitation electric candles that operate on batteries if you don`t like the idea of using wax candles close to the wall.
